UVa Student-Athlete Killed, Men’s Lax Player Charged

Police charge U.Va. men’s lacrosse player with death of female player
Fourth-year, University of Virginia women’s lacrosse player Yeardley Love, 22, was discovered slain at a 14th Street Northwest apartment early this morning (circa 2:15 AM). Charlottesville police were called upon under the pretense of a possible alcohol overdose. Love, a native of Cockeysville, Md., was unresponsive and police were unable to revive the young athlete.

George Huguely, 22, of Chevy Chase, Md., has been charged with first-degree murder by Charlottesville Police. Huguely, also a University of Virginia lacrosse player is being detained in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Cause of death has yet to be determined, though the Love’s body showed evidence of physical trauma. Furthermore, witnesses have reported to police that Huguely and Love have been involved in a relationship.
