Pope Benedict XVI just signed to the same record label as Snoop Dogg.
Yes. Seriously. It caught me off guard too.
The Pope recently signed with Geffen Records to release an album of his chants and prayers to the Virgin Mary, in addition to eight original classical pieces. According to writer Francis X. Rocca:
Benedict’s voice, in Latin, Italian, Portuguese, French and German, was recorded in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican and during papal trips abroad. The Pope will be accompanied by a choir recorded in Rome. The album will also feature classical music by an international group of composers of various faiths, to be performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at London’s Abbey Road studios, most famous for its association with the Beatles.
The album is predicted to sell relatively well, and some of the profits will go to help music education for less fortunate children worldwide.
But the Doggfather and the Holy Father are on the same label! I doubt Snoop will be taking the Pope to Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles anytime soon, but still. Crazy.
